Frequently Asked Questions

Golden Locks Hair

What if Golden Locks Hair doesn’t have my hair colour?

No problem at all! At Golden Locks Hair, we understand that every client’s hair is unique. If we don’thave your exact colour in stock, we can custom order a set tailored to your specifications—whetherit’s a specific shade, length, or texture. Custom orders typically take a bit longer but ensure you get theperfect match for your needs.

Additionally, all of our hair extensions can be safely toned or coloured darker. We recommend this approach if you're between shades or unsure. In fact, if your ideal shade isn't available, it's often best to buy or order a slightly lighter colour and then have it professionally toned or dyed to match your natural hair perfectly.

– Please see our colour guideline chart.

Can I colour my Golden Locks Hair extensions?

Yes, you can colour your hair extensions, but it is only recommended to dye them to a darker colour. Darker hair colours provide more predictable outcomes. Bleaching or lightening the extensions is not advised, as this process often leads to unwanted orange or yellow shades and can severely dry out and damage the hair. It's important to remember that hair extensions, regardless of quality, are "dead" hair and do not benefit from the natural stimulation provided by roots, unlike your natural hair.

Can I bleach, tone or highlight my Golden Locks Hair extensions?

No, we do not recommend bleaching or highlighting your hair extensions, as this will damage the hair and the outcome is not predictable. Toning the hair extensions is acceptable, as well as washing them with silver shampoo. We take no responsibility for hair colours that have been ruined or permanently altered due to colour changes done at your own discretion.

What is the lifespan of my Golden Locks Hair extensions?

Our clip-in hair extensions can last anywhere from 6 to 12 months for regular users, or even longer for those who use them occasionally. The lifespan of the extensions largely depends on how well they are maintained. Factors such as how often you wash the hair, the use of heating tools, gentle brushing, and careful storage can all impact the durability and longevity of the hair extensions

Can I use heating tools on my hair extensions?

Yes, you can use heating tools on Golden Locks Hair extensions, but it's important to do so carefully to avoid damaging the hair and to prolong their lifespan. Use a heat protectant on the hair extensions and avoid using heating tools that exceed 185°C. Try not to use heating tools too often, as frequent use can shorten the lifespan of your hair extensions. Always be gentle with the hair. Under no circumstances should you use any form of heating tools on the silicone seamless weft part of the hair, as it will melt and cause the hair to fall apart.

Can I sleep with my clip-in hair extensions?

No, it is not recommended to sleep with your clip-in hair extensions in. Clip-in hair extensions are designed for temporary use, such as for a day, night out, or special occasion. Sleeping with them can cause the clips to move around, potentially pulling and damaging your own hair and scalp. Additionally, it can lead to tangled hair extensions and shorten their lifespan.

Can I cut my hair extensions?

Yes, you can cut your hair extensions shorter or into layers, or style them as you desire. Keep in mind that clip-in extensions are inserted in a “layered” effect, so if the cut is too blunt, it may show solid lines where the hair is inserted in its several rows. It’s best to have a professional insert and cut your clip-in extensions to ensure a seamless look. Make notes of the order in which the hair was clipped in to recreate the same look in the future.

What is the difference between Remy Indian and Brazilian Virgin hair?

Remy hair is collected from multiple donors of the same length with cuticles aligned in the same direction, reducing tangling and giving it a natural shine. It has undergone chemical processing to achieve a uniform colour and has a lighter feel. Virgin hair is collected from a single donor with naturally aligned cuticles and has not been chemically processed, which enhances its durability and longevity. Virgin hair tends to have a heavier feel compared to Remy hair. If you're interested, you can visit the studio to see an in-person comparison of the two types.

What is seamless silicone weft clip-in hair extensions?

Seamless silicone weft clip-in hair extensions are designed for a natural and comfortable look. The seamless weft lies flat against the scalp, minimizing visibility and providing a smooth transition between the natural hair and extensions. Integrated silicone strips enhance comfort by cushioning the clips, reducing friction, and preventing damage to the natural hair. The clip-in design allows for easy application and removal, making them ideal for temporary use. These extensions offer a natural appearance with less bulk and are more comfortable than traditional clip-ins

What is the difference between seamless and traditional weft clip-in extensions?

Seamless clip-in extensions and traditional weft clip-in extensions differ mainly in construction and comfort. Seamless extensions feature a flat, undetectable weft with a silicone base that lays close to the scalp, offering a natural look and added comfort by reducing irritation. The seamless design minimizes the visibility of the extension line, blending seamlessly with natural hair. In contrast, traditional weft extensions have a thicker, more visible weft that may not lay as flat, making the extension line more noticeable. This can sometimes lead to less comfort due to bulkiness and pressure on the scalp. Overall, seamless extensions provide a smoother appearance and greater comfort.

How long does my hair need to be to wear clip-in hair extensions?

To wear clip-in hair extensions comfortably and effectively, your natural hair should generally be atleast shoulder length. This length allows the extensions to blend seamlessly with your natural hair andprovides enough coverage to hide the clips. If your hair is shorter than this, the extensions might be more visible and could potentially cause anoticeable transition between your natural hair and the extensions.

Can I swim with my clip-in hair extensions or hair topper?

No, swimming with temporary hair extensions is not advisable due to potential damage and practical concerns. Chlorine and saltwater can harm both your natural hair and the extensions, causing dryness, tangling, and reduced lifespan. Additionally, the clips securing the extensions may become loose or dislodged in water, increasing the risk of losing or damaging them. Swimming can also lead to tangles and matting, which can be difficult to manage and might cause breakage.

What does “Remy” hair extensions mean?

"Remy" refers to a specific type of hair used in hair pieces. The term "Remy" describes hair that has been collected with the cuticles intact and aligned in the same direction. This alignment helps reduce tangling and ensures that the hair behaves more like natural hair. Remy hair is known for its smoothness and natural appearance.

What clips do we use on our clip-in hair extensions and hair toppers?

Clip-in hair extensions and hair toppers use small, durable clips to securely attach the hair piece to natural hair. The most common type is the snap comb-in clip, which features a spring mechanism that snaps open and closed for easy application and removal. This type of clip provides added grip and pressure to hold the hair piece in place. Made from stainless steel, these clips are very lightweight, so you don’t feel their weight in the hair at all.
